Before mounting, locate the following:

  • Rubber retaining strap
  • Front harness strap with two buckles
  • Rear harness strap with buckle

Mounting Instructions

1.

Thread one front harness buckle through the cut-outs of the rubber retaining strap. Pull the buckle completely through the cut-outs.

2.

Standing beside your bike, place the rubber retaining strap across the top of the fuel tank, near the front.

3.

Bring the loose end of the harness strap, with buckle, around the down tubes of the frame just under the steering head and up the other side. (See Fig. C). Be sure the harness strap doesn't interfere with the steering of the motorcycle or with the operation of cables, wires, etc.

4.

Thread the second front harness buckle through the other end of the rubber retaining strap. (See Fig. D). The front harness is now completely assembled. Do not adjust the straps until the tankbag is in place.

5.

Open or remove the seat for access to the frame tube(s) behind the tank. Remove the buckle from the rear harness strap.

6. Thread one end of the rear harness strap around the frame tube(s) and bring both strap ends together, centered above the frame. (See Fig. E). Place one strap end on top of the other, holding both ends in one hand.
7.

Pick up the buckle and note the serrated edges on the inner and outer rungs of the buckle. With the prongs pointing toward the front of the motorcycle, flip the buckle until the serrated edge of the inner rung is on top. (See Fig. F).

8.

Pass the webbing ends up through the buckle in front of the inner rung, then down through the outer slot. For now, only pull 2-3 inches of webbing through the buckle. If threaded properly, you should be able to pull straight up on the buckle with no slippage. Yet, tilt the buckle forward 90° and it adjusts easily. (See Fig. G).

9.

Be sure that the bottom of the tanktote is free of dirt or other abrasives, then set the bag in place on your tank. Check that the tanktote is centered from side to side.

10.

Snap both front harness buckles to the tankbag. (See Fig. H). Evenly tighten each side of this harness until the straps are taut. Adjustment is easier if you pull each loose webbing end out of the metal slider and rubber retainer strap. The front harness should not require additional adjustments unless the fore and aft position of the bag is changed.

11.

Attach the rear buckle to the bag and pull down on both webbing ends until this strap is taut. (See Fig. I). The tanktote is now secure.

12.

To remove the bag, simply squeeze the sides of each buckle and lift off the bag. Because the harness straps remain in place, the bike can be operated with or without the tanktote.

13.

To refuel, disconnect both front harness buckles and flip the tanktote on end, revealing the gas cap.

PLEASE NOTE: Always keep the non-slip bottom surface clean to help prevent damage to your tank's finish. We suggest several liberal coats of wax on the tank as additional surface protection.

Please Note
The Eclipse Essential Tanktote is constructed to carry normal touring loads. Please use common sense when loading this bag, and do not exceed the G.V.W. rating of your motorcycle. Eclipse, Inc. assumes no liability for the improper mounting or use of the product.

Service
Because every Eclipse product is built for years of use, our equipment can be easily off-mounted for periodic cleaning, maintenance, or adjustment. It takes more time and costs more to make our products this way, but it means your equipment will last longer.

Cleaning
If soiled, do not machine wash the Eclipse Essential Tanktote. Use a hand brush with mild detergent and cold water. Thoroughly rinse with cold water. DO NOT machine dry. (Note that repeated cleaning will deteriorate the fabric's waterproof coating.)

Eclipse Warranty
If an Eclipse product should ever become unsatisfactory due to a defect in materials or manufacturing*, call us for instructions to return it with a dated proof of purchase for prompt repair or replacement, at our option. This warranty applies to Eclipse branded products and is given to the original purchaser only. Altered products will void warranty. Warranty coverage requires that items be returned to Eclipse, without modification, before final disposition of the warranty is assessed.
