THIS PRODUCT |
Before mounting, locate the following:
- P-38 Saddlepacks
(1 pair)
- Front stabilizer
coated metal buckles (2 each)
- Rear cross-over
mounting strap padded sleeve
In
addition to the parts provided, you will need the following:
- Socket Set (or)
6-inch adjustable wrench.
Mounting Instructions
|
1. |
Position the P-38 Saddlepacks where desired on the bike (see
illustration above). Slide the padded sleeve onto the rear cross-over
strap. |
| 2. |
| Adjust
the seat strap so that the saddlepacks hang squarely on the motorcycle. Once you
have adjusted the strap to the proper length, secure each webbing end under the
provided slide as shown in Figure 1. |
|
CAUTION:
There must be at least 1-1/2 inches of clearance between the bottom of each side
of the pack and your exhaust system. Remember, too, that the weight of the fully
loaded and packed saddlepacks and/or passenger's weight will compress the seat
foam, lowering the saddle packs even closer to your exhaust system.
|
| 3.
|
|
Next,
connect the front stabilizer straps to the buckle assemblies. Determine a
location for mounting the buckle assemblies on the motorcycle, trying to
position them so that the strap will extend forward and down at about a 45°
angle from the pack. See Figure 2. |
| |
| 4.
|
Bolt
the buckle assemblies in this position using your motorcycle's existing
hardware. For example, the rear foot peg is often a good location. (Note: The
metal bar of this assembly is coated to resist corrosion. If you remove any
excess length from the bar, the cut end should be primed or coated to prevent
oxidation.) |
| 5.
|
Snug,
but do not tighten, the front stabilizer webbing straps. |
| 6.
|
Locate the rear straps of each saddlepack. Connect them around the back
end of the seat or turn signal area. |
| 7.
|
Evenly tighten each of the front stabilizer straps and the rear signal
straps until all mounting straps are taut. Be sure that the saddlepacks remain
in the desired position. |
| 8.
|
| Finally, secure each webbing end of the front stabilizer straps and the
rear stabilizer strap as shown in Figure 3. |
| |
| 9.
|
Be sure to
compress the rear suspension of the motorcycle with the saddlepacks in place to
ensure that they remain at least 1-1/2 inches from the exhaust
system. |
| 10.
|
Your P-38
Saddlepacks are now secure and stable. Once all loose webbing ends are tucked
into the belt slides and buckles, excessive lengths of webbing can be cut off
with a hot knife. |
|
CAUTION: All points of contact between the saddlepacks and the finished
surface panels of the motorcycle must be padded to prevent wear to both the
saddlepacks and the finish of the bike.

Please Note Eclipse Saddlepacks are constructed to carry
normal touring loads. Please use common sense when loading these packs, and do
not exceed the G.V.W. rating of your motorcycle. Eclipse, Inc. assumes no
liability for the improper mounting or use of the product.
Service Because
every Eclipse product is built for years of use, our equipment can be easily
off-mounted for periodic cleaning, maintenance, or adjustment. It takes more
time and costs more to make our products this way, but it means your equipment
will last longer.
Cleaning If
soiled, machine washing the Saddlepacks is not recommended. Wash with a hand
brush using mild detergent in cold water, then thoroughly rinse the bag with
running water. DO NOT machine dry. (Note that repeated cleaning will deteriorate
the fabric's waterproof coating.)
