Always remember, disc locks are only a first level protection against bike theft.
As long as your bike is not secured to something
(2 bikes locked together or to a fixed object), it will be at much higher risk.

That being said, it is also common sense that the more locks you pile on to your bike, the more you will slow down prospective thief's.

Based on how difficult the locks are to bypass, we divided our disc lock selection into two major groups.
Medium
and High Security Disc locks
Within these groups, you have 3 varieties which are described below.

  1. The slide-over type slides over the disc and locks into one of the holes either on the brake or center part of the disc. Here we usually find two different materials. Steel (drop forged or machined) or cast alloy. The less expensive locks are usually die cast.
Onguard stapler disc locks feature the new high level floating disc cylinders.
The Oxford Omega, features a heavier double locking pin (locks both sides of the lock) to completely prevent prying tools as well as a high grade pick proof key-way. Needless to say, this one is unique and absolute highest security level.
One of our best sellers is the XENA alarmed disc lock which comes in 3 basic models and 2 colors (High visibility yellow or Stainless Steel). Xena also makes combination disc lock/cable or chain.
  2. Two Piece disc locks are usually stronger. The two pieces rotate freely into each-other. The major difference there is to be found in the cylinders (key-way) being used. Top of the line here are ABUS Extreme 69, ABUS Victory 39. Lower cost alternatives can be found in the OnGuard range of locks.
  3. U-locks or mini u-disc locks are coming into a wide variety these days.  Look for the double locking mechanism as this will give you more protection. A few very well known brands are only single locking.
A lock like the ABUS Quick 37 uses double ball bearing deadbolts which means that the shackle has to be cut twice in order to remove the lock from the disc. Worldwide, you will not find a stronger disc lock than this one.
A new player in this field is OnGuard with the Boxer #5047. Although Chinese made, these locks are loaded with right features. A lower cost alternative to ABUS.
