ABUS PLUS KEYWAY

The keyway is probably the most overlooked of the three major parts.  All high security ABUS motorcycle locks use the patented high security PLUS keyway. Unlike conventional barrel (tubular) or pin tumbler cylinders, the plus keyway works with floating discs.
These floating discs make it virtually impossible to pick.  Only the correct key aligns all the discs to the correct position so that the side bar falls in which then allows the key to be turned the full 180 degrees.  When the key is turned back in slide 4, the discs are automatically scrambled.
So far, worldwide the ABUS PLUS locking mechanism has not been picked by neither burglars, test institutes or locksmiths.
Because there are no springs, the mechanism is guaranteed to work for life and smoothly down to -40 F degrees.

Why not use a barrel type like the competition?
Barrel type cylinders can be drilled out and are sometimes easy to pick.  (Cylinders like ACE II and Meroni are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to pick)
Try and drill out the PLUS cylinder and you will notice that the first disc is hardened and spins freely with the drill bit.

Pin tumbler cylinders usually only have around 1000 different combinations at most.
The plus cylinder has between 30,000 (6 plate) and 250,000 (7 plate) combinations and can only be duplicated at ABUS USA in Plymouth, MN or ABUS approved key centers.

Recently, ABUS introduced the (8 plate) Plus-X key system which increases the key differs to 1 million.
